Propel is seeking a Director of Business Development to join our mission to modernize America’s safety net.
We make Fresh EBT, a free mobile app that empowers SNAP recipients to more easily manage their benefits and discover new resources. 800K users check Fresh EBT monthly across the US. Under our current business model, we vet and promote partners that offer valuable services to our users; current partners include grocery stores, brands, healthcare companies, and nonprofits.

You'll join our business team at a critical time as we grow our revenue, build services that deliver value to both our partners and our users, and experiment with wholly new business models.
We’re looking for an experienced leader to build our retail / CPG vertical. You have significant experience in consumer marketing and digital advertising -- and are excited to leverage your skills and network to build a new business at Propel. This is a true general management role, encompassing sales, account management, and strategy. As this business develops, we expect you to grow your team and improve our capabilities.
Define business strategy for Propel across the retail / CPG space
Develop new relationships with advertisers; sell Fresh EBT ad products and capabilities to media agencies, brand managers, digital marketing teams at retailers, etc.
Lead ongoing relationships with advertisers in the retail / CPG space
Improve Propel’s adtech capabilities and lead relationships with partners (e.g., digital promotions companies, adtech providers, etc.)
Act as the “voice of the retailer / brand” within Propel; identify new product features for retailers / CPGs and build the business case for them
Stay up to date on new trends in digital advertising, digital promotions / coupons, eCommerce, grocery retail, CPGs, etc.
Minimum 4-6 years relevant experience (or make the case that you have the equivalent)
Demonstrated experience in building a marketing-focused business: this could be building a digital advertising business at a publisher, developing a shopper program for a brand, creating a brand-focused vertical at a media agency, etc.
Previous experience in relevant industries (at publisher, at retailer/CPG company, and/or at media agency)
Fluent in language of adtech and familiar with technology providers, publisher best practices, etc.
Entrepreneurial experience, either in an actual startup or through an entrepreneurial project within a larger company
Interest in building a business with a strong social mission at the intersection of private and public sectors
Willing to work in Brooklyn, New York and unrestricted work authorization in the US
