About this role: Propel is seeking a DevOps engineer to join our mission to modernize America’s safety net. As the 5th full-time engineer, you’ll own core infrastructure and stability projects, ensuring reliability for the wide variety of systems that allow our products to run smoothly. You’ll work to improve our development and deployment processes to reduce the likelihood of downtime and optimize costs.

Our DevOps processes and practices are in their infancy, so you'll have the opportunity to set the course on what tech and tools we use.

Example responsibilities:

  • Oversee and improve scaling, monitoring, continuous integration, and continuous deployment of our microservice based architecture and mobile apps.
  • Improve the security of our cloud services as we continue to deal with sensitive customer data.
  • Extend our deployment to multiple AWS region. Make it easier to create, scale, and, monitor our growing list of services.
  • Move our internal tools to highly available auto scaling deployments to support our growing team.
  • Migrate our deployment from Amazon ECS to Amazon EKS (Kubernetes)
  • May ultimately be responsible for hiring and managing a team as the organization grows.

About you

  • At least 3-5 years of DevOps experience in a cloud-based environment and experience managing and leading teams.
  • A desire to build and optimize fault tolerant systems that are ready to scale.
  • Experience deploying, managing, and scaling PostgreSQL, Redis, ElasticSearch, and Python on AWS.
  • Working knowledge of orchestration frameworks including terraform, ansible, and docker.
  • Familiarity with other AWS technologies, like Lambda, Redshift, Kinesis, Data Pipeline, and so on.
  • Well versed with continuous integration systems, monitoring, and capacity planning.
  • You enjoy learning and championing emerging solutions and new technologies!
